If they can put a man on the moon…

Why can’t they make a really portable A/C? Well it took a (long) while but it’s finally here! An actual compressor driven air conditioner that REALLY works. And as an almost miracle like bonus it can be run off a battery. This is sci-fi space age stuff from when we were kids; the kind of thing we just assumed was literally not possible to make. But here it is and it really does work like they advertise. You can look at the many fine video reviews to see the ways this unit can be implemented in the field, though it’s worth noting that it works great as an emergency backup at home if your power goes out too. I’ll just cover a few things I haven’t seen mentioned much in other reviews that are worth noting.
It’s an inverter driven compressor. This means the motor can run at variable speeds. This helps when you turn on the unit because it’s starts running slow and spins up slowly, this prevents that “surge” pull on the power supply you’re used to from home units. It also means that the three different “cold settings” on the unit aren’t temperature settings or fan speed settings, they’re compressor speed settings. The important point here is that each setting uses more or less power than the others, so you can extend battery life this way.
If you get a large UPS or battery backup unit get one with a high Amp (30 Amp is best) 12 volt or 24 volt DC output. The compressor runs in DC so converting from AC to DC will waste power and decrease your run time.
While there are fan speed and compressor speed settings there’s no actual temperature control. This prevents the unit from power cycling, but you’ll be surprised how often it runs so well it actually makes you cold and you’ll want to turn it off to avoid freezing.
And last it does have a condensate drain line and if it’s really humid you will need to drain to unit either outside or into a bucket. On the other hand it does try to take the condensation and heat evaporate it out the exhaust duct. If you’re in a low humidity area or the temperature isn’t that hot you may not notice any water coming out at all, which is a nice bonus if this is your situation.
This is a truly amazing piece of equipment: with the stories recently of 230 million people being under a heat advisory at one time the idea of taking of taking a “portable fan” that really does blow ACTUAL cold air with you to the park or the beach is a real dream. Its only real downside is cost. If it was $200 and everyone could have one it would change the way we deal with summer. On the other hand it is very well made, it under promises and over performs—and I’d rather have it start out this way and then come down in price over time than to try and make it cheap to begin with—but it doesn’t really work—and then try to increase the quality over time. In short (too late!) it actually does everything it says it does, and if you have a use case where you wish you had exactly this kind of device: buy it. You won’t be disappointed.

Great Solution for in my Semi

I started researching an AC unit because I'm a truck driver and the eco-AC in my company truck will only cool my truck to about 80 degrees if it's over 100 outside and my schedule usually has me trying to sleep during the day. After looking at probably a dozen different options and models, I came across Zero Breeze. What really stood out to me is that it seemed to be heavily marketed towards the "van living" lifestyle. Van living isn't exactly like truck driving life, but it's a pretty close cousin in terms of small space, low power consumption and the need to be fuel conscious. After scouring all the specs I was happy to find that it has extremely low wattage requirements (I think it said 250W but don't quote me, lol) I knew this was the product that was most likely to solve my AC issues, if it performed the way they said, haha (it totally surpassed expectations, btw) The biggest hurdle regarding purchasing was the price tag, but I was able to afford it fairly quickly with the help of Klarna. I've been at work for a week since I picked this up from the house and there's been some creative strategizing involved to get it situated in a streamlined way in the small space of my truck. The biggest trick has been the exhaust hoses. The windows in my truck are shaped funky so I've been trying various solutions to close up the gaps when I have the window down about 4-5 inches to let the hoses poke out. It's been a process, but its definitely worth every penny and all my creative brainstorming. Yesterday I went to sleep about 10am and turned the Zero Breeze on about 30 minutes beforehand. When I got up at 5pm my thermostat said it was a lovely 65 in my truck. I turned on my ignition key to see the outside temp reading and it said it was 104. Before I had this AC if it had been 104 outside, it would have been 85 inside and I'd have woken up in a puddle of sweat and feeling icky and borderline flu-ish. This is an absolute game-changer for me and I've been recommending it on various trucker groups whenever someone brings up the need for a better AC in their truck. 5 stars all the way.

A solid add to my van camping experience!

I am pleased with the Zero Breeze and installed it in my 1984 Westfalia VW Van on the counter behind the driver's seat. I power mine currently with my Goal Zero 700 power module but may opt for the battery at a later date and charge the battery via my solar set up. I was a relief to have cool air in my van while camping on the Chama River in July.

I’m using this in my Jeep Rubicon, venting out the back seat side window, with the packing material with cutouts to hold in place. Often I am out in the desert when it is around or over 100 degrees. After being outdoors it is awesome to get into the car and fire it up. I don’t like to use the car A/C when parked, as I am concerned about brush under the vehicle getting hot and catching on fire. This has been a real life saver for me as I’m an individual who gets overheated easily.
